List Standards

The Horrible Levels List is a collection of levels that do not meet Geometry Dash's rating standards while still showing genuine effort and creativity.

Our quality standards are intentionally much lower than the official game's, but that does not mean we will accept just any level. The list is not for low-effort or intentionally lazy levels. We want creators to experiment, have fun, and make something memorable, even if the result is messy and nowhere near rate worthy.

Layouts are completely acceptable; decoration is not required. However, a layout should still demonstrate clear level design. This can come from structuring blocks and spikes like a typical level, but it can also come from a unique mechanic, gameplay concept, or other creative idea that clearly shows thought and effort.

A level does not need to be visually impressive, but it should feel built with a clear idea or goal in mind, not mindlessly thrown together in three minutes. Disconnected obstacles, seemingly random objects, constant gaps, and obvious skips caused by a lack of structure are unlikely to be accepted unless they are part of a clear creative concept.

Levels made mostly of object spam, mindless placement, or other low-effort building will not be accepted. Object spam used as decoration is allowed when it has a clear artistic or comedic purpose, but these levels are reviewed more closely to prevent low-effort slop from flooding the list. Creative, experimental, and funny levels should all show clear effort instead of simply filling the editor with objects.

Submission Requirements

  • Levels must have at least 20 seconds of gameplay.
  • Levels must be possible on vanilla Geometry Dash.
  • Levels cannot receive significant gameplay updates after acceptance. Gameplay changes may remove a level from the list; buff-dating to claim a higher position is discouraged because it invalidates victors and existing progress.
  • Levels cannot be copies, or buffed or nerfed versions, of levels already on the list or already online.
  • Levels already on other lists are not allowed.
  • Levels should not have excessive flashes and must include a way to reduce them when they do.
  • Level names must be appropriate. Staff decide whether a name fits the list.

Staff discretion: The staff team has the final say on whether a level meets the HLL requirements. If a level is rejected, a clear reason will be provided.

Level Ratings

Although the Horrible Levels List accepts levels that are not rate worthy, higher ratings recognize creators who put genuine effort into their work.

Levels may receive a Featured, Epic, Legendary, or Mythic rating when they significantly stand out in one or more of these areas:

Uniqueness

A creative gimmick or idea is explored throughout the level.

Decoration

Noticeable decorative effort is made while the level remains below official rate standards. This encourages creators to practice decoration on the list.

Comedy

Chaotic or unconventional decoration is used intentionally in a funny way, with clear effort and design behind it.

Staff discretion: The staff team has the final say on whether a level is awarded a rating.

Records

  • Completion videos must have all clicks fully audible throughout the completion, with at least one attempt shown before it.
  • You must record and upload the completion to YouTube or another video-sharing platform.
  • Accepted completion videos may not be deleted.
  • Records must show the end-screen stats, including attempts and orbs.
  • The moderation team may request raw footage, typically for large achievements or suspicious activity.
  • Records may not use disallowed mods such as TPS, Noclip, Speed Hack, Click Bot, or macros. The common-sense rule applies: mods cannot give a player an ability beyond vanilla Geometry Dash.
  • Custom copies must be approved by list staff, or must unquestionably not affect gameplay or difficulty in a significant way.
  • During completion, do not use skips that make a section significantly easier or bypass major gameplay. These situations are handled case by case.

Staff discretion: The staff team can reject any submission believed to be illegitimate, even when it is not explicitly covered by these rules.
